Here's a little information about our new Co-Head Coaches, Maire Fox and Dave Nehls.

Maire is a life-long swimmer, and believes she should have been born a mermaid.  She began competing in kindergarten with the Demarest Swim Club, and later swam year-round with the Bergen Sharks, where she honed her butterfly.  She most recently served as an Assistant Head Coach for the Boys' JV and Varsity Swim Teams at Wayne Valley High School, where she also taught history.  Her team took 2nd in Passaic County, qualified for NJ States, and five swimmers qualified for Meet of Champs in six events.  Her favorite stroke is butterfly and she loves distance swimming.  She's looking forward to a great summer of ELAC Swim and can't wait to hit the water!!!

Maire recently moved to Erskine Lake herself, to be near relatives (some of whom are on the ELAC team) and return to the place where she spent her earliest summers learning to swim.  She’s excited to join the community and work as an ELAC coach, sharing her passion for the sport with the kids on the Lakes!  Maire is currently a Ph.D. student in World History at St. John’s University, focusing on the History of Medicine.  She is a graduate of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y. where she earned a B.A. in History (Honors), B.A.s in Dual General/Special Education 1-6 (Honors) and an M.S. in Urban, Multicultural & Special Education.

Suit up!

This will be Dave’s first year coaching the ELAC Swim Team, and he’s very excited to share an excellent summer with all the swimmers, coaches, and parents involved.  Dave started swimming in his teens and excelled in breaststroke and IM, eventually swimming for Ramapo College, becoming a two-year captain and setting several school records in his time.   Since graduating from college, he has served as top assistant coach for the Ramapo College Swim Team for the past six seasons, helping six swimmers reach NCAA Championships.  Throughout his years of coaching he’s worked with all sorts of clubs, clinics, and teams, helping swimmers of all ages excel in and out of the water.  He hopes to use his experience coaching to help create a fun, positive, and encouraging culture where we become the best swimmers we can be and have fun doing it!
